They clean up very well when rolling the volume back and sound great for leads. Immortalized by Santana at Woodstock and smashed onstage by Townshend, the Gibson SG is a rock icon. I’ve always been drawn to to the Lyre Vibrola SGs. It wasn’t. The actual basic tone was really VERY similar, but the Epi’s p-ups were noticeably weaker and lacked the body of the Gibson… I have found that I like my Les Paul with the Gibson '59 Humbuckers for rhythm but then I like to use my SG with the '61 … I’ve got a lovely ‘17 SG Standard but still would not mind selling that one and buying one of these new ‘19 SG Standards with … I really want one. Gibson’s Nashville-made SG Standard ’61 takes you back to the first model … I know the Epi was supposed to be patterned more after the ’61 reissue Gibson, but I was hoping that the p-up configuration would render a sound still mostly similar to the Gibson SG Standard. SG Standard ’61. They aren't harsh but they definitely push the amp more than standard Burstbuckers or '57 Classics, especially in the SG.
